Importance of nutrition in life

Good nutrition is a significant aspect of maintaining a balanced lifestyle. Physical activity and a proper diet will help us attain and maintain a healthy life and decrease the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and cancer.

Nutrition is the analysis of how our bodies are influenced by food and drink, with specific attention to the vital nutrients required to improve human health.

It addresses the physiological and biochemical mechanisms involved in nutrition and how food substances produce energy or are transformed into body tissue. These nutrients are categorized as sugars, fats, fibres, minerals, proteins, vitamins, and water. A healthy diet ensures that nutritious ingredients with the right proportions contain the right amount of nutrients. A significant feature of nutritional research is the research of diseases induced by malnutrition and the effect of food in chronic disease production.

Low nutrition can contribute to a lack of energy, digestive problems, vitamin deficiencies,  obesity, anxiety,  depression, and several of the most prevalent chronic conditions of today, including coronary heart disease, cancer, and ADHA. Nutritional awareness and the right decision regarding the food you consume will help you maintain optimal fitness over your life.

When we take food or drink anything, our body starts processing. The body absorbs the necessary minerals, fats, proteins, vitamins, and water from the food, converting them into our blood and making us the energy to keep us healthy.

The nutrition in food and drinks are essential to our health. As it directly influences our body and health, that is why the importance and necessity of nutritious foods are beyond any question.

Every year on 7 April, World Health Day is celebrated to convey the importance of nutritious food and good nutrition for healthy and stable existence. Millions of citizens across the world do not even have access to the basic needs of existence, including food and health care. This is an attempt to sensitize people to make them appreciate the importance of nutrition.

Why is nutrition essential for human health?

We all realize that for a sound body and mind, a balanced food choice and clean water is a must. All foods are considered nutritious if they contain essential nutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates, fats, some vitamins, minerals, and liquids. These all have a different factor in maintaining a healthy body and creating new cells.

 Many diseases often arise due to poor or improper food choices. Some foods or diets themselves are responsible for certain diseases such as diabetes, kidney, cardiac disease, etc.

The vital nutrients that contribute to healthy nutrition:

Proteins: proteins are essential for our food – amino acids. There are 22 different types of amino acids that are needed for our body function. It helps to develop and rebuild new tissues.   Proteins also help to produce hormones and enzymes in our bodies that play a key role in sexual development and metabolism. Excellent sources of food are low-fat milk and dairy,  nuts and beans,  whole grains, soy and tofu, green peas, and legumes.

Carbohydrates: Human body’s main source of energy is carbohydrates. The carbohydrates are converted into glucose and used as a source of energy in our body. Our body used this energy for various functions as a cellular constitution. The rich sources of carbohydrates contain fruit and vegetables of all sorts, bread, pasta, and rice.

 Fats: Fats also supply body energy. We still have a misunderstanding that fats are unsafe and harmful. All kinds of fat are not unhealthy.    Fats protect the body by giving us the much-needed protection against external influences such as environmental conditions and help all of our body organs. An avocado, dairy,  fish, almond, coconut oil, etc. are some examples of healthy fats.

Vitamins: Vitamins an organic compound plays a crucial role in body function. Nowadays, a chemical compound is classified as a vitamin, which is essential for our body to develop and grow.

Minerals: Although our body requires minerals in trace quantities, these are important for the regulation of our body processes and the growth of new tissues. It contributes to increasing our immunity, and we get all the requisite quantities from a proper and nutritious diet. Calcium, chromium, chlorine, arsenic, iron, and fluoride are the main minerals.
